Importance of Business Dress

  • Appearance defines first impressions, Statistics showed that how we appear speaks more about us and is more important sometimes than what we verbally have to say. Understand the dos and don'ts of looking your best with your clothes.
  • Learn what proper and appropriate dress is for everything in business.
  • In our society we are often judged by our appearances. Who is neat, clean and attractively dressed sends very positive messages about him or her.
  • Our appearance is going to be noticed daily and is going to send messages about who we are and how we feel about ourselves and others.
  • It is important to evaluate our audience and our purpose before we dress

Our purpose is dress to impress to look professional

Three key areas of business dressing:

A) Dressing for interviews for men & ladies

Sixty five percent of what a job recruiter recalls is conveyed visually not orally. Therefore,to present an image that is professional and credible, you must dress accordingly.

Before you say a single word to the interviewer, you have already made an impression based on how you are dressed.

Men

  • "Suit" means: a matching jacket and pants, shirt, tie, coordinating socks and shoes. A dark-colored suit with a white (or at least light-colored) shirt is your best option.
  • Wear a white undershirt.
  • Avoid loud colors and flashy ties.
  • Your suit should be comfortable and fit you well so that you look and act your best.
  • Shoes should be well polished and in good condition, not scuffed or run-down at the heels. They should also match your belt.
  • Your hair should be recently cut and look neat. Short.
  • Wear deodorant. Don't wear cologne or aftershave-you don't want to smell overpowering or worse, cause an allergic reaction.
  • Make sure you have fresh breath. Brush your teeth before you leave, and don't eat before the interview. Don't smoke right before an interview.
  • Dressing professionally shows respect for yourself, the interviewer, and the company.

Ladies

  • Your suit should be comfortable and fit you well.
  • Interview suits should be simple and dark in color. Anything tight, bright, short should absolutely be avoided. Knee-length skirts are suggested, very long skirts, while modest, are also considered too fashionable for an interview.
  • Wear a conservative blouse with your suit. Do not wear bright colors, animal prints or low-cut.
  • Make-up and nail polish should be simple and suitable; shades that are neutral to your skin are generally advisable. Avoid bright or unusual colors (e.g., purple lipstick) or very long nails.
  • Keep your jewelry and hair accessories to a minimum, and stick to those that are not flashy, distracting, or shiny. One ring per hand is best.

Shoes should be conservative and fairly low-heeled in good condition. Don’t wear shoes with an open toe or back.

Dressing For Work

Men

Men's wear: includes trousers and a shirt, preferably long sleeved. A jacket and a tie are usually required for business meetings. Keep shirts buttoned up to the collarbone. Suits in Navy or gray white or light blue shirts. Dark socks, leather belt that matches your shoes. Short hair is expected. Cologne should never be strong.

  • Go for quality over quantity;
  • Vulgar clothes are those which, no matter what the fashion of the moment may be, are always too complicated for the occasion; too exaggerated in style. So, avoid this style;
  • Shoes should be conservative, clean & polished. Dark colors are the best.
  • Periodically check that your shirt is tucked in behind you and that.
  • the tags are not flopping out at the neck.
  • For men, stripped ties convey the most powerful image, followed by.
  • Neat ties with small repeating designs.

Ladies

For Females dresses & blouses that reaches at least to the elbows.

Note: Dressing too casual gives impression of informality. Always dress up if there is even the slightest chance of doing business or seeing clients.

It is not appropriate to wear tight, attractive, or trendy clothing to work. This is especially important for women, who may be judged by their clothing more insensitively than men.

  • Buy flexible fabrics and dark or neutral.
  • Learn how to accessorize. You'll get a lot more use out of basic items.
  • Make choices of clothing, fragrances and jewellery, hairstyle, etc. That are not distracting & don't call attention to them.
